Course Syllabus CPI Selection Report as Part of the Assessment Battery.docx

Course Description

This training block is intended for psychologists with extensive experience screening applicants for police and other public safety job positions. The purpose of the class is to help screening psychologists transition from a standard “off the shelf” test of normal range personality to a specialized police selection report based on the California Psychological Inventory. Topics will include how to use the suitability risk indicators presented in the report to the formulation of a bottom-line job suitability rating. Special emphasis will be on understanding the derivation of the Report’s Risk Statements, critical item lists, and the Incumbent norm T-Score profile. The Training will include an in-depth review of sample cases provided by the instructor as well as additional cases from the participants’ own practice. The case review process will include suggestions for integrating the CPI Selection Report results with those from the MMPI-2 RF testing from the same applicants. A final topic will include suggestions for determining when a profile is either valid and interpretable, or “indeterminable,” and how that condition influences the rest of the assessment process.
