Course Description

Emotional Intelligence involves how well someone is aware of, manages, and deliberately uses the emotions of ones self and others in pursuit of goals. There is an abundance of empirical support that illustrates the value in assessing and developing Emotional Intelligence in various occupational roles. Given the specific demanding requirements of police and other protective services roles, measuring and developing Emotional Intelligence is applicable both in selection and developmental contexts. As part of a selection assessment battery, measuring emotionally intelligent behavior may help evaluators screen out protective services candidates at higher risk for burnout, termination for a performance issue, communication problems and inappropriate use of force. While as part of developmental programming, developing emotionally intelligent skills can help protective services personnel attain benefits ranging from increased resiliency, effective communication, safety-focus and job satisfaction. Although there are various Emotional Intelligence tools to choose from, the Genos Emotional Intelligence Inventory Protective Services Reports distinguish themselves by measuring emotionally
