Course Description

Police psychological assessment techniques, innovative procedures and validity research

Course Objectives

Johnson, Roberts &amp; Associates Users' Conference&nbsp;<div>Presentation: New and Innovative Practice Ideas in Police and Public Safety Psychology (Jeni McCutcheon, Psy.D., and Jocelyn Roland, Ph.D.)&nbsp;</div><div>8:45 am-9:45 am. Develop new approaches to preemployment questions that assess excessive dominance and/or aggression, in an effort to reduce excessive use of force incidents and complaints. Employ subjective assessment tools to support objective test data in an effort to better help agencies understand the opinion of the screening psychologist. Consider how “sexting” behavior directly relates to potential risk for an employee and how to address this behavior in the preemployment evaluation. Develop research data to assist agencies in understanding the value of preemployment evaluations and how they directly impact the organization.<div>Presentation: Let Us Call These Learning Lessons: Case Presentations: Topics of Interest (Jeni McCutcheon, Psy.D., and Jocelyn Roland, Ph.D.) 10:00 am-11:00 am Understand the importance of test administration that is consistent with the standards set forth by test developers, ethics codes and applicable legal guidelines. Become aware of the risks associated with law enforcement applicants who use and/or abuse controlled substances either with or without a valid prescription. Educate potential employers of the risks associated with hiring applicants found unsuitable. Consider how the admission of viewing of legal and/or illegal+ pornography should be accounted for in the assessment of an applicant in a public safety position. Consider how the admission of viewing of illegal pornography by a public safety applicant may need to be handled from a legal perspective.</div><div>PRESENTATION: The JR&amp;A CPI as a Predictor of Background Rejection in a Bifurcated Screening Program. (Casey Stewart, Psy.D. and Ryan Roberts, M.A., JD) 11:00 am-12:00 pm.Use the statistical methods of correction for attenuation, RRR, logistic regression, and ROC to demonstrate significant links between (a) test scales and indices and (b) pre-conditional offer of employment rejections.Use research outcomes and above statistics in working with agencies and use test scales and indices at the pre-COE phase.&nbsp;</div><div>PRESENTATION: A Re-analysis of Job Performance Validity Data Using the JR&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;A CPI and the MMPI-2 RF.
