Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Training Courses
In 1997, POST received Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant funds to design domestic violence and sexual assault training courses for law enforcement officers and public safety dispatchers. Over the past six years several courses have been made available through San Diego Regional Training Center and are offered at no cost to agencies on an on-going basis.
VAWA funds were also used to create 3 CD-ROM courses and 10 telecourses that provide the most current information on these topics and can be completed as in-house training.
In a time when training reimbursement funds are no longer available to the law enforcement community, VAWA courses on topics of domestic violence and sexual assault are available to California Law Enforcement Agencies at no cost. Agencies can host any or all of these courses at their department or in their jurisdiction, which eliminates trainee travel costs. The instruction team is of the highest caliber and the curriculum is the most current for dynamics and legal issues on these topics.
