The POST Learning Technology Resource Center (LTRC) oversees the
Multimedia Training Program. Multimedia instruction is presented
using a variety of media: video, sound, computer graphics, and
text. The different media appeal to different senses, and the computer
enables the learner to become actively involved in the learning
process by answering questions, manipulating objects, and making
decisions.
The benefits of using multimedia instruction include consistency
of instruction, reduced training time, and increased learning. Since
the instruction is self-paced, an officer can repeat segments as
many times as necessary and can complete a course at his or her
own pace over a period of time. Training costs are reduced, since
expenditures for travel, lodging, per diem, and tuition are eliminated.
All multimedia training courses are free of charge to California POST agencies and
enable officers to get Continuing Professional Training (CPT) credit."
