The Law Enforcement Property & Evidence Management Guide focuses on property and evidence processing procedures
for all law enforcement agencies. Topics include: organizational considerations, documentation, storage and
handling, inventories, property disposition and purging, legal and regulatory issues, and automation.
As a "live" document, this online guide will be updated periodically as legislative changes occur. In addition,
property and evidence management will be impacted by local practices and procedures.
The Management Guide also includes a fully linked table of contents for easy navigation and links
to California property and evidence codes by category (refer to Chapter 8). The Appendices include a
glossary of terms and useable
sample forms. For recommendations on Retention, Storage and
Disposal of DNA evidence, please refer to the state guidelines for post-conviction DNA testing.
