Bureau Overview

The Basic Training Bureau (BTB) facilitates the ongoing development, maintenance, and improvement of the basic training system. The POST Peace Officer Safety and Force Unit, a sub-unit of the Basic Training Bureau, publishes the California Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted in the Line of Duty Report (LEOKA) and provides contemporary resources and services for our law enforcement clients with an emphasis on keeping California peace officers safe and informed.

BTB Programs and Services

The Basic Training Bureau is responsible for the development and maintenance of a variety of different basic training programs such as the Regular Basic Course, Penal Code Section 832 (Arrest and Firearms) Course, Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course, Specialized Investigators' Basic Course, Field Training Program, Campus Law Enforcement Course, District Attorney Investigation and Trial Preparation Course, Requalification Course, Basic Course Waiver Process, and the Student Workbook Project.

The Basic Training Bureau is also responsible for the Reserve Peace Officer Program (RPOP). Reserve officers are members of our society who choose to dedicate a portion of their time to community service by working as part-time employees or volunteers with law enforcement agencies.
