The Basic Training Bureau (BTB) serves those who present the courses that are the gateway into law enforcement for most of California’s Peace Officers. The BTB oversees the Regular Basic Academy, including Modular Format courses, as well as the Specialized Investigators Basic Course, the Requalification Course, and the PC 832 Course. The BTB also presents several courses designed to teach academies how to manage their programs, and manages the development and revision of academy curriculum and Workbook content, administration of all out-of-state waiver requests, management of all Field Training Programs and other specialized courses, in addition to Basic Course Certification Reviews.
BTB Programs and Services
The Basic Training Bureau is responsible for the development and maintenance of a variety of different basic training programs such as the Regular Basic Course, Penal Code Section 832 (Arrest and Firearms) Course, Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course, Specialized Investigators' Basic Course, Field Training Program, Campus Law Enforcement Course, District Attorney Investigation and Trial Preparation Course, Requalification Course, Basic Course Waiver Process, and the Student Workbook Project.
The Basic Training Bureau is also responsible for the Reserve Peace Officer Program (RPOP). Reserve officers are members of our society who choose to dedicate a portion of their time to community service by working as part-time employees or volunteers with law enforcement agencies.
