The Training Program Services Bureau (TPS) develops law
enforcement curricula to meet California legislative mandates or
other critical law enforcement training needs. The bureau also
investigates the application of technology to law enforcement
training, develops courses that incorporate various forms of
training technology, and provides resources that assist instructors
in incorporating technology into training. TPS manages the
California POST Training Network, the Cultural Diversity Program,
the Master Instructor Development Program, the Multimedia Training
Program, the Regional Skills Training Centers, the Robert
Presley Institute for Criminal Investigation and the Violence
Against Women Act (VAWA) Program.

- California
POST Training Network (CPTN)
The California POST Training Network (CPTN) delivers high-quality,
in-service training programs on VHS and DVD to law enforcement
agencies in the California POST program. The CPTN also features
a law and legal training series called Case Law Today and
other special video collections.

- Multimedia
Training Program
The Learning Technology Resource Center manages the
Multimedia Training Program for TPS. This program
incorporates advanced technologies and methodologies into
law enforcement training. The training puts students in
typical law enforcement situations, requiring them to
utilize their existing skills and develop new skills to
successfully resolve the situations.

Pro 3
Gameshow Pro 3TM, a LearningWare, Inc. product, has been
licensed by POST for distribution to California law
enforcement trainers free of charge. This product offers
trainers the ability to develop an interactive learning
experience using four different game formats: Categories,
Classroom Feud, Tic Tac Toe, and Final Answer. Trainers in
the California POST program may obtain the required
licensing information by calling 1.877.ASK.LTRC. They may
then use the Gameshow Pro 3 link to go to the LearningWare
site and download the games.

Factory 2
Quiz Factory 2TM, a LearningWare, Inc. product, has been
licensed by POST for distribution to California law
enforcement trainers free of charge. This product allows
trainers to create a test or survey on any topic, deliver
it to students via the Internet, an intranet or LAN, by
email, or on disk, then track results and measure
learning. Trainers in the California POST program may
obtain the required licensing information by calling
1.877.ASK.LTRC. They may then use the Quiz Factory 2 link
to go to the LearningWare site and download the
application.

- Cultural Diversity
Program
The Cultural Diversity Program provides entry-level peace
officers, front-line officers, and command staff officers
with training that explores the evolving role of law
enforcement in our rapidly changing and increasingly
diverse society.

- Instructor Development
Quality instruction is integral to POST's training
mission. Numerous programs enable both basic and advanced
instructor development training. Annual symposiums provide
for updates on emerging trends and concepts. Instructor
certification protocols exist for basic academy
instructors and for those who teach certain high
risk/specialized subjects.

- Regional
Skills Training Centers (RSTC)
POST has developed Regional Skills Training Centers to
meet the in-service training needs of more than 60,000
sworn officers. The centers provide perishable skills
refresher training for peace officers. These skills have
been identified as driving, tactical firearms, force
options, arrest and control, and tactical and
interpersonal communications skills.

- Robert Presley
Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI)
The POST Robert Presley Institute of Criminal
Investigation is designed to improve the effectiveness of
individual investigators through an intensive training
program. The ICI is structured to include a Core Course,
13 Foundation Specialty Courses, and related electives.
The ICI is a voluntary course of instruction and a
certificate is awarded upon completion. More than 900
investigators have received ICI certificates.

- Violence Against
Women Act (VAWA) Program
POST received Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant
funds to design domestic violence and sexual assualt training
cources for law enforcement officers and public safety
dispatchers. Over the past six years several courses have
been made
available
through San Diego Regional Training Center and are offered
at no
cost
to agencies on an on-going basis.
VAWA funds were also used to create 3 CD-ROM courses and
10 telecourses that provide the current information on these
topics and can be completed as in-house training.
