| The Basic Training Bureau
facilitates the ongoing development, maintenance and improvement of
the basic training system. The bureau is responsible for the development
and maintenance of a variety of different basic training programs
such as the Regular Basic Course, Penal Code Section 832 (Arrest and
Firearms) Course, Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course, Specialized
Investigators' Basic Course, Field Training Program, Campus Law Enforcement
Course, District Attorney Investigation and Trial Preparation Course,
Requalification Course, Basic Course Waiver Process, and the Student
Workbook Project.
The POST Peace Officer Safety and Force Unit, a sub-unit of the
Basic Training Bureau, publishes the California Law Enforcement
Officers Killed and Assaulted in the Line of Duty Report (LEOKA) and
provides contemporary resources and services for our law enforcement
clients with an emphasis on keeping California peace officers safe
and informed.
The Basic Training Bureau is also responsible for the Reserve Peace Officer Program (RPOP). Reserve officers are
members of our society who choose to dedicate a portion of their time to community service by working as
part-time employees or volunteers with law enforcement agencies.
