Only the Legislature can grant peace officer authority or a change
in peace officer status or designation. Before legislators consider
such a request, POST must conduct a peace officer feasibility study
to determine whether peace officer status or a change in peace officer
status or designation is justified for the position under consideration.
The requesting person(s)/agency agrees to pay the cost of the study.
