Course Description
Identity theft investigations have become a major issue
for all investigative organizations at the local, state,
and federal levels.

The course goal is to provide the investigator with
the tools necessary to investigate the crime and network
with the various local, state, and federal agencies
that may become involved in this type of investigation
and to provide a standardized method of reporting and
investigating the crime throughout the state. With the
Internet proliferation the crime can easily have an
International component.
This course is designed for individuals working to
investigate identity theft and fraud cases. The student
must have a basic knowledge of fraud investigations
and possess basic computer skills.
The course will address the following topics:
- Victims and victimology
- Methods of Commission
- Law/Filing and Prosecution Concerns
- Industry Standards
- Investigative Techniques
- Evidence
- Investigative Skills
- Awareness/ Training

This course is co-presented by the San Jose State University
Administration of Justice Bureau and the San Diego Regional
Training Center, both Institute of Criminal Investigation
presenters.
