Domestic Violence Course
 

Course Description

This one-week course will provide both novice and experienced detectives with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct successful investigations of domestic violence. Students will learn specific investigative techniques, problem-solving skills, and case management skills related to the various types of domestic violence including cross-cultural, elder abuse, and stalking.

The classroom activities are practical, "hands-on," and interactive. Although preferred, it is not necessary to have completed the I.C.I. Core Course prior to attending this course.

Topics will include:

  • Suspects/Batterers, Primary Aggressors
  • Victims
  • Impact on children
  • Stalking
  • Elder abuse
  • Officer-involved domestic violence
  • Investigative steps and techniques
  • Evidence including medical evidence and photographs
  • Court orders and Legal mandates
