Course Description
This one-week course will provide both novice and experienced
detectives with the knowledge and skills necessary to
conduct successful investigations of domestic violence.
Students will learn specific investigative techniques,
problem-solving skills, and case management skills related
to the various types of domestic violence including
cross-cultural, elder abuse, and stalking.
The classroom activities are practical, "hands-on,"
and interactive. Although preferred, it is not necessary
to have completed the I.C.I. Core Course prior to attending
this course.
Topics will include:
- Suspects/Batterers, Primary Aggressors
- Victims
- Impact on children
- Stalking
- Elder abuse
- Officer-involved domestic violence
- Investigative steps and techniques
- Evidence including medical evidence and photographs
- Court orders and Legal mandates
