Serving California Law Enforcement since 1959

Course Description

The ICI Core Course is specifically designed to meet the needs of the Law Enforcement Investigator in performing the multi-disciplined, multi-leveled tasks required to successfully conduct thorough and comprehensive criminal investigations. Through the use of practical and interactive experiences, officers new to investigative assignments are exposed to specific investigative techniques, including the use of cutting edge technology. Students are involved in the investigative process by case studies, utilizing field exercises such as evidence collection and preservation, simulations related to the crime scenes, surveillance activities, and victim/suspect interviews and interrogations. The cases culminate in the delivery of courtroom testimony. At the conclusion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Manage and reconstruct a crime scene
  • Organize and employ the skills involved in case management
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with victims and witnesses through the effective application of interviewing and interrogation techniques
  • Identify and access useful sources of information
  • Validate their work through documentation and case presentation
